Florida Learner's Permit Exam (Class E) — FAQs.
- Is this exam approved by the Florida DHSMV?
- Yes. Driver Training Associates, Inc. d.b.a. Ticketschool.com is approved by the Florida DHSMV as a third-party administrator of the online Class E Knowledge Exam (also called the driver license test, road signs and road rules test, or learner's license test).
- What are the eligibility requirements?
- You must be at least 14.5 and under 18. Our system checks eligibility with the DHSMV — you'll be marked ineligible if you've already attempted the exam three times or have one in progress. Ages 18+ must take the exam in person.
- What languages is the exam available in?
- The exam is available in English only, per Florida law.
- Can my information be changed after registering?
- If you haven't started the test yet, call 1-800-558-9887 (Mon–Fri 9a–5p CST) to correct your registration. Once the exam has started, no corrections are allowed per DHSMV regulations.
- Is there a certificate of completion?
- No. Your exam result is automatically added to the Florida DHSMV system so it appears at your driver license or tax collector appointment.
- Does a parent or guardian have to proctor the exam?
- Yes. Florida regulations require a parent or guardian to watch during the test. They must provide their driver's license number during registration, taking responsibility for ensuring no assistance is given.
- Is there a time limit?
- Yes. 60 minutes total, and you must start within 24 hours after passing the eligibility check. There is also a 2-minute limit per question — exceeding it fails the attempt.
- How does the test work?
- After registration and payment, click "Begin Test" and you'll be taken to the DHSMV testing portal. Answer two identity validation questions, then start the 50-question exam — one question at a time. Keep going until you get 40 correct (pass), 11 wrong (fail), or time runs out. Do not back up in your browser or click outside the exam — it will fail your attempt.
- Is my result reported to the DHSMV?
- Yes. Your result is immediately reported. At your driver license or tax collector appointment they'll look it up by name, DOB, and ID.
- How many attempts do I get?
- Up to three attempts online. If you don't pass on an attempt, you can re-register and try again. After three attempts you must test in person at a Driver License Office or Tax Collector's Office.
- What if I have a technical problem during the test?
- Call 1-800-558-9887 Mon–Fri 9a–5p CST. If any of the 60 minutes remains we'll try to recover the exam. If we can't, the attempt is marked as a failure and counts against your three allowed attempts.
