Texas Adult Driver Education — FAQs.
- Is this online course state approved?
- Yes. Our Texas Adult Driver Education course is licensed and state approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) — Driver Training Associates, Inc. (d.b.a. TicketSchool.com) - Provider #C3588 . Meets the state requirement for all first-time Texas driver license applicants ages 18–24.
- How long is the Texas Adult Driver Education course?
- All TDLR-approved Adult Driver Education courses are six (6) hours. Online, you can register and access it 24/7 and log in and out as you need.
- Who is eligible to take it online?
- The course is required if you're 18–24. If you're 25 or older it's not required but still highly recommended. You must be applying for a Texas driver's license for the first time and not already hold a license from another state or country.
- How much does the course cost?
- $29.95. No hidden or extra fees.
- Does the course count as my DPS written test?
- Yes. Completing our Texas Adult Driver Education course also satisfies the DPS road-signs-and-rules written test required for your license. After completion you can take your course certificate to the DPS and you will be able to skip the written knowledge test and go right to the vision and behind-the-wheel road test.
- Can I log in and out?
- Yes. Access is 24/7. You can complete the course in whatever chunks fit your schedule — the system saves your progress.
- Is there a final exam?
- Yes. A 30-question multiple-choice final requiring 70% or higher. You get three attempts — fail all three and you must retake the course from the beginning.
- Is my completion reported to the Texas DPS?
- No. After passing, you'll receive an electronic PDF completion certificate to print and bring to your driving test.
- I'm moving to Texas with an out-of-state license — do I need this course?
- New Texas residents can drive on a valid non-expired license from another U.S. state, Canadian province, or qualifying country for 90 days. Within 90 days you must apply in person at a driver license office. If your license is valid or less than 2 years expired from another state, U.S. territory, or Canada, you're not required to take the knowledge or skills tests.
