Texas FAQ
Texas Defensive Driving Course — FAQs.
- Is this online course state approved?
- Yes. Our Texas defensive driving online course is licensed and state approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) — Driver Training Associates, Inc. (d.b.a. TicketSchool.com), Provider license #CP-090. Accepted by courts statewide and insurance carriers that offer defensive driving discounts.
- How long is the course?
- All state-approved defensive driving courses in Texas are six hours. Log in and out as needed — progress saves.
- How much does it cost?
- $25 — the lowest price allowed by law. Payment by debit or credit card. The price includes a free electronic certificate emailed to you. The only optional add-on at registration is the Certified Texas Driving Record ($19.95), which most Texas courts require to be turned in with your certificate.
- How do I pay?
- Debit or credit card online, or by phone at 1-800-558-9887. Credit and debit cards are the only forms of payment we accept.
- Does it have to be completed in one sitting?
- No. Log in and out from any device with internet access — progress saves. The more important deadline is the court's if you're taking it for a ticket.
- Can I take the course from multiple devices?
- Yes. It's browser-based, not software — register on your PC and continue on your phone or tablet whenever you like.
- Is there a final exam?
- No. Each unit ends with a 7-question quiz requiring 70% (5 correct). If you fail on the first attempt you get two more with different questions. Fewer than 1% of our customers fail — if you do, you'll re-register and start over.
- How quickly will I get my certificate?
- Email delivery: sent at 10am, 1pm, and 4pm CST on business days. Weekend and holiday completions are processed the next business day.
- What do I do with my completion certificate?
- If you selected Ticket Dismissal, you receive a two-part certificate — turn the COURT portion in to the court by your deadline and keep the INSURANCE portion for your carrier if they offer a discount. Insurance Reduction or Business/Safety Training issue a single insurance/safety certificate not accepted by a court for a ticket.
- What if I need a duplicate certificate?
- Call 1-800-558-9887. A $10 fee applies, waived if requested within 30 days of issuance, the original was not received, and no changes are needed.
- Is this course approved for an insurance discount?
- Yes — many carriers offer up to 10% for 3 years for completing a TDLR-approved defensive driving course like ours. Participation varies by carrier, so check with your insurance provider first. Select "Insurance Discount" at registration — that certificate is for insurance only and not valid for a court ticket.
- Can I order a copy of my driving record?
- Yes. Most Texas courts require a certified copy along with your certificate (to confirm you haven't taken defensive driving in the past 12 months). The Certified Texas Driving Record ($19.95) is offered as an optional add-on at registration and is delivered in the same format as your certificate.
- Why doesn't my driving record show my course completion?
- The reason Texas courts require a copy of your driving record is because that is the only way they can verify that you haven't taken defensive driving in the past 12 months for another ticket. If there are no instances of a course listed on your driving record, that is what you want. Once you take defensive driving and turn in your certificate, the court will report that to the DPS and then your driving record will reflect that.
- Can I take your course without a Texas driver's license?
- Yes. Per state regulations, you'll need to submit a notarized identity validation affidavit to complete the course.
- What is your refund policy?
- We offer a 60-day money-back guarantee. Completed accounts, and accounts disqualified for identity validation or failed unit quizzes, are not eligible for a refund. Call 1-800-558-9887 Mon–Fri 9a–5p CST.
